The wind in her hair, the sun on her face, she felt ready to conquer the world on her turquoise bike.
Suddenly, she heard a wolf whistle followed by a “Looking good doll!”
Why do men always have to ruin her day. No, she decided, she would not waste this perfect day on idiots in construction vests incapable of common sense and decency.
“Excuse me” one of the sorry excuses for a burnt marshmallow said, causing her to slam on the brakes by stepping in her way. No matter how badly she wanted to trample him, he wasn’t worth the lawsuit money, much less the prison sentence.
“You’re excused. Now leave.”
“You should be grateful for the compliment. Although you would look prettier if you smiled.”
“Fu–”

» Oh wow, for a second there I thought I saw her hand move. I think this 48-hour shift is really getting to me…»
» Tell me about it. Although I don’t mind staring at the hot new guy for two days straight! I would love to just- fuck»
«Me too girl»
«Get your shit together for a minute, although I would love to do that too, her eyes are open»
She had channeled all the power she could muster into opening her eyes only to be blinded by the bright white light. She could make out two vague shapes standing next to her and a steady beeping, like that of a heart, accompanied by the sterile smell of a hospital.
«Bethany, go get the doctor.»
«Why don’t you go get the doctor?»
«Do I look like I am joking?»
«You always look like a joke.»
«Just go!»
As her eyes regained their focus, her brain refused to form a single coherent word.
«You don’t have to speak, just relax, the doctor will be here shortly.»
The beeping frantified as her previous experience with men came to mind. Although her only desire was to run far away, her body remained paralyzed.
«Oh goddess, did I say something wrong? I am sure she will be here shortly.»
Now her ears weren’t working either. With the reassurance that the doctor wasn’t coming, the exhaustion won, as her thoughts faded like an old light bulb.
“I am so sorry to wake you, Madeline. It is such an honour to finally meet you. I am Dr. Paris Vanderbilt, the head doctor here at the ICU.”
Maddie had a brain fart and after what felt like five minutes of white coated women staring at her, she slowly started to comprehend that the doctor was in fact the gorgeous woman standing right in front of her. The relief she felt was the same as when Atlas was allowed to take a break from holding up the weight of the world.
“Don’t worry, memory loss is a common occurrence in coma patients, but I am positive someone as womanly as you will be back on your feet in no time!”
“No, no, I clearly remember being hit by a bus. I am sorry, I must admit that I was just a bit shocked, that my doctor is a woman.”
“Why would a man be a doctor when he wouldn’t even be able to fill out a tax return form?”
Maddie joined in the light-hearted laughter automatically, while simultaneously starting to question everything she knew about the universe. The confusion on her face must have been obvious as the doctor put on a serious face and hypothesized, “Am I correct in assuming that you experienced a coma dream in a world similar to ours, yet men ruled the world?”
“Yes?”
“Luckily that horrific nightmare is over. Welcome back to the wonderful world of girls!”
With that, the medical staff parted, leaving Maddie alone to contemplate this earth-shattering turn of events.
Eventually, she was released into the world even though she remembered naught about her earlier life. Her apartment had been sold a year ago after her alleged friends had given up hope on her unvegetablifying. As an apology, they invited her to a coffee reunion, them paying since all her money had mysteriously disappeared too, courtesy of her amazing friends.
“Maaaaaaadie!” squealed a lady as soon as she walked into the bar,” I can’t believe it is actually you! And looking so good! I barely even noticed that you were hit by a bus and had to go through complete face reconstruction after which you were stuck in a coma for seven years.”
“Haha, thanks?”
“Oh, and I guess you haven’t met my new boyfriend yet. He is a little feisty, but he makes up for it with his love if you know what I mean.”
Maddie laughed baffled while looking over her friend’s shoulder to say hi to her boyfriend.
“Hello”, peeped the man, averting his gaze as if trying to avoid a predator.
“Don’t mind him. Come, let’s drink to your health.” She reached for one of the full glasses but missed it completely, dumping the whole contents on her dress.
“Oh woman,” turning to her boyfriend she continued, «buddy, clean this up, would you? I am so helpless at cleaning and would make an even bigger mess.”
Suddenly overwhelmed by the extreme contrast to the world she knows, she excused herself to get some fresh air and staggered outside.
“Looking good daddy!” she heard from the other side of the street, followed by a wolf whistle.
The biking teenage boy turned to look where the “compliment” had come from, not seeing the bus coming at him at full speed. By the time he realized his mistake, it was already too late, and he went flying.
It was at this moment she realized that she was wrong.
Thinking to herself, she realized that misterogony instead of misogyny is not a solution. The feminism she had always fought for meant equality of all genders, female, male and non-binary, not the superiority of one over the other.
