«Sunflower’s grace» – Eine Geschichte von Joana Disler

Manchmal fühlt sich das Leben an wie eine endlose Nacht. Doch wie Sonnenblumen, die geduldig auf den Sonnenaufgang warten, dürfen auch wir hoffen. Eine Geschichte über Verlust, Hoffnung und das Licht, das uns wiederfindet.

The sun hangs low as I come home, tired and drained from work. Everyday is the same, nothing ever changes. I fall onto my soft mattress and stare outside my window. My gaze falls upon the field of thousands of sunflowers. They stand tall in the late afternoon light, always facing the light no matter what. And when it becomes night, they wait until the sun rises again. They always help me relax and make me feel content, since they remind me of the old days, when everything still seemed okay, when I didn’t have to worry about anything. Back then my mother always took me with her to the sunflowers. They were my mother’s favorite flowers and so are they mine. She always told me a lot about them. What was it again? How they are never alone. How they always face the sun, no matter what and when it goes dark, they’d wait until the light rises again. They never give uptheir hopes and always stand tall. I wish I could be like that, full of hope. But it’s hard if everything around me seems way too distant.“Never forget to smile and share your happiness with others. Because if you always stay positive and don’t give up your hopes, then the light will always find you, no matter how dark everything seems for you.” She always told me this, but back then I never understood what she meant, but now I do. But can I really do this? Is it really possible for me to see the light again? I don’t know what to think anymore, I’m scared and I don’t know how to get rid of this feeling. It’s like it’s taking all the air from my lunges and I can’t stop the tears from rising. But nothing could prepare me for what’s to come when I heard my doorbell ring. There stood a familiar face, an old friend of mine, smiling at me like he has not a single worry in this world. He hands me a bouquet with sunflowers. “These are your favorites, no?” That’s the only thing he asks with his goofy smile. Tears fall from my eyes as I could finally see again. He’s my sun, he’s the light I was waiting for all this time. The wait was really worth it and thanks to my mother I always kept my hopes up even when it seemed way too dark. “Sunflowers stand great and tall, facing the sun no matter what and in the night they wait until the sun rises again. You should also stand tall and always face forward no matter what and let nothing bring you down. Also in your darkest time you should not fall into despair, because the light will always find you, you just have to wait and never give your hopes up.You’re a beautiful unique flower in this world and bring sunshine to those who love and need you, never forget that you’re loved and the light will shine brighter after your darkest time. Just make sure to always face forward and share your smile and happiness with everyone around you.”
